Lark Drive-In: Movies Under the Stars

Great news, the Drive-In has returned people! This year the Lark Theater has partnered with the Village at Corte Madera to bring back Movie Under the Stars! A 100-Car Drive-In movie theater that will be running every Thursday to Saturday through November 2021. It’s a fun way for the Lark to raise money to help support their much-loved theater.

 

The moment I heard, I wanted to purchase my tickets! It instantly brought me a feeling of nostalgia. I remember piling into the car with my family dressed in PJ’s, loaded down with snacks to go and watch Disney’s Bambi on the huge outdoor screen at Marin Motor Movies. This old Drive-In was located in what is now, Marin Square in San Rafael and was open from 1948 - 1982. I was there in the late 70’s – yeah, I know I just dated myself. There was also the popular 101 Movies Drive-in which was a bit more north on Smith Ranch Road where Cinemark Regency 6 is now located. To have this family friendly fun option again is fantastic! Say that 3 times fast.

 

The movies start at 8:30pm, but you can arrive at 7:30PM to give you plenty of time to find your spot and settle in! The Village restaurants offer special al Fresco dinners for movie goers or if you are in the mood for popcorn or your favorite movie snack, there is a concession stand/tent. Tailgating is allowed so feel free to bring your own snacks. All Covid safety guidelines followed. The movie soundtrack can be heard from your car stereo at FM 91.3. So, dress the kiddos in their PJ’s and head on over! This Friday night 4/2 is Wall-E and Saturday night 4/3 is Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs.

 

The Village at Corte Madera is located in the North parking lot, 1557 Redwood Hwy. Advance Ticket prices are $30 per car, $25 for Lark Members, $15 if you go by yourself.
